How To Interpret List Descriptions:

An example of a list description. Ref:58458, © Mr F. B. Basketter

List descriptions are the text that describes a Listed Building.  It is mainly architectural, but may also contain other background/historical information about the building.  It is part of a legal document used by local councils to justify why a building should be Listed.  The best way to understand these is to use them with an Architectural Glossary. This can be done by a teacher before a lesson or older pupils could be set it as a task.
