Description

SS Peter and Paul RC School admissions register 1895 by permission of Wolverhampton Archives

School admissions registers record the arrival and leaving date of every pupil and include details such as their date of birth, address, parents' names and  reason for leaving. The information is regarded as confidential for a period of time but entries made in the Victorian era are now all likely to be freely accessible.

Location

Only a small number survive. Some may still be in the school, or in another school if there has been a merger or change of use. All local authority archives should have a collection of their local schools' admissions registers.

Ideas for Use

  • to research the lives of Victorian school children - eg what ages they started and left school
  • to research people who lived in your locality in the Victorian period
  • to compare childrens' names between the Victorian period and today.
